Hit the blue notes at the 8th Bridgnorth Jazz Festival

The now well-established eighth Bridgnorth Jazz Festival takes place over the last weekend in October.

The festival opens at the Down Inn on Friday 29 October at 8pm with a tribute to the legendary singer Billie Holliday. Top West Country vocalist Louise Parker will be presenting her own very special performance dedicated to this great American icon of jazz. She will be accompanied by the Craig Milverton Trio.

Saturday 30 October once again features the now well-established jazz trail with performances at seven different venues.
 
Top artists including Julian Stringle, Paul Sawtell, Dee Daly, Carole Westwood, Laura Collins and Karen Sharp will perform a series of staggered concerts at the Bear, the King’s Head, the White Lion, the Old Castle, the Black Boy and the Bassa Villa. At 3.30pm there will be an All Star Jazz session at the River House Kitchen.

The action returns once again to the Down Inn on the Saturday evening for a tribute to the two great clarinet players of the swing era, Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw. This will feature Britain’s top clarinet player Julian Stringle, a firm favourite with Bridgnorth audiences, who will be accompanied by the Craig Milverton Trio. In addition the show will feature the sensational vibraphone player, Jim Hart.

The festival concludes on the Sunday lunch time at the Swan at Knowle Sands with another tribute, this time to the great baritone sax player Gerry Mulligan.

This show will feature Karen Sharp, one time sax player with Humphrey Lyttelton and the sensational trumpet player Ben Cummings. She will be accompanied by the Paul Sawtell Trio.
