LifeLong friends Kirsty Lord and Alex Dodd’s love of music has resulted in a stunning collaboration, the singing duo Double Attraction. The talented teenagers have an ambitious goal in mind – to one day headline at the world-renowned Glastonbury Festival.

The 16 year olds, who met at St Dominic’s School in Brewood, are classically trained and have been singing and performing from a tender age. Both girls play piano and guitar, are strong vocalists and write a lot of their own material as well as performing well-known covers.

The vocal harmony group first realised its potential after taking to the karaoke stage in Spain two years ago and has
steadily developed a loyal following in Bridgnorth, appearing, by popular demand, at a number of venues in the town.

The girls’ career started to take off when, a year ago, after performing at an open mic night locally, they were offered a support spot at a prestigious West Midlands venue, the Robin 2 RNB Club, where top artists like Ronnie Spector and Midge Ure have headlined.

And their talent was further recognised whilst on holiday in Kingston, Jamaica, when they were invited to pursue their
career professionally in the West Indies, providing musical entertainment for hotel guests staying in the capital.
The pair, whilst extremely flattered, but with their feet firmly on the ground, declined the offer, realising the importance of completing their schooling before launching a fulltime career in the music industry.

Kirsty, who lives in Chelmarsh, says that she and Alex, from Stafford, have a dream to develop a career in the performing arts.
“Our musical tastes are eclectic,” says Kirsty. “This is reflected in our set which features everything from Leonard Cohen, Dixie Chicks, Bob Dylan, Alanis Morissette and Duffy.” Their influences include The Clash, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Alabama 3, plus of course, Dixie Chicks and Dylan.

The pair say the most difficult hurdle to overcome is convincing venues to give them the chance to perform because of their youth.
“Career development is difficult for us,” says Kirsty. “There are some preconceived notions regarding the capability and style of performance that 16 year olds can generate. But once we are given the chance all venues have booked us again.”
